DSQ High School Quartet Workshop

Music transforms and inspires

October 4-6, 2024

In the beautiful lakeside setting of historic Camp Kieve in Nobleboro, Maine, the DaPonte String Quartet holds a weekend-long workshop for aspiring string players of high school age. The weekend is dedicated to the study of chamber music through preparation and performance of great string quartet literature. The final event of the workshop is a concert by all the student ensembles.

Sixteen students, selected by competitive audition, will be organized into four string quartets. Participants receive instruction from the DaPonte String Quartet (violinists Lydia Forbes, Ferdinand Liva, violist Kirsten Monke and cellist Myles Jordan). Coaching sessions and masterclasses focus on the elements of ensemble playing.

We provide the highest quality musical instruction, enabling students to develop new skills and refine existing ones.

The workshop is offered at no cost to the student. All lodging, food and tuition costs are covered.

Dates: Friday, October 4 through Sunday, October 6, 2024.  Students arrive on campus Friday afternoon at 5:30 pm and leave after the concert on Sunday afternoon, which concludes at approximately 4:30pm. Meals are provided from dinner on Friday through lunch on Sunday. Special dietary needs are easily accommodated. Families and friends are invited to attend the concert Sunday afternoon, followed by a reception.

Application deadline: August 1, 2024.  Students will be notified of their acceptance and their assigned piece by September 1, 2024.
