DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE. \nJoin us for this one of a kind\, gala celebration marking our 34th anniversary and the launch of our 3rd annual\, international DSQ Institute for advanced quartet studies.  The concert will present a thrilling collaboration between the DaPonte String Quartet and the renowned  pianist\, Christopher O’Riley (also a familiar voice as the former host of NPR’s From the Top) performing the piano quintets of Robert Schumann and Erich Korngold in the phenomenal acoustics of Bowdoin’s Studzinski Hall and will conclude with a meet-the-artists\, catered reception on site. \nWhen he wrote his quintet\, Korngold had yet to make his mark on the Hollywood film industry with soundtracks such as Errol Flynn’s Adventures of Robinhood. This remarkable\, youthfully exuberant work was composed long before he left Vienna.  Its monumental central Adagio is perhaps one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music ever written. \nSchumann’s brilliant masterwork is full of joy and excitement. One of his most celebrated compositions\, it was written in almost a frenzy of creativity\, and dedicated to his wife\, Clara Schumann\, one of the greatest pianists of the 19th century. \nWe can’t wait to share this incredible music and to mingle with all of you after the performance for some good cheer and yummy nibbles!  See you there! \n

SUMMARY:Adult Chamber Music Weekend Workshop
DESCRIPTION:General schedule: Friday night\, 6:00-8:30pm; Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm; Sunday 12:00pm-approx 4:00pm. We will conclude with a private mini-concert (friends & family invited) of all the groups on Sunday afternoon\, approx 3:00-4:00pm \nThe workshop includes multiple round robin coaching sessions with each of the four members of the DaPonte String Quartet. Each ensemble will focus on one movement from a standard piece of the chamber music literature.  There are also several demonstrations of rehearsal techniques\, including topics such as phrasing and intonation. \nWe have space for four ensembles and are giving preference to preformed groups of four or more (sextets are really fun!). If you are interested\, but don’t have a group you regularly play with\, let us know and we can try to match you up with others.  In your application\, list the level of music you’re comfortable playing (Haydn\, Brahms\, Bartok\, Ligeti etc). \nThe workshop fee is $250\, a discounted rate made possible through our partnership with Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP).  There is no food or lodging provided\, but there are lots of eateries within walking distance or a quick drive away. We will have some light refreshments on hand.
