SUMMARY:Adult Chamber Music Weekend Workshop
DESCRIPTION:General schedule: Friday night\, 6:00-8:30pm; Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm; Sunday 12:00pm-approx 4:00pm. We will conclude with a private mini-concert (friends & family invited) of all the groups on Sunday afternoon\, approx 3:00-4:00pm \nThe workshop includes multiple round robin coaching sessions with each of the four members of the DaPonte String Quartet. Each ensemble will focus on one movement from a standard piece of the chamber music literature.  There are also several demonstrations of rehearsal techniques\, including topics such as phrasing and intonation. \nWe have space for four ensembles and are giving preference to preformed groups of four or more (sextets are really fun!). If you are interested\, but don’t have a group you regularly play with\, let us know and we can try to match you up with others.  In your application\, list the level of music you’re comfortable playing (Haydn\, Brahms\, Bartok\, Ligeti etc). \nThe workshop fee is $250\, a discounted rate made possible through our partnership with Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP).  There is no food or lodging provided\, but there are lots of eateries within walking distance or a quick drive away. We will have some light refreshments on hand. There are also several hotels in the area if you prefer not to commute. \nThe deadline to apply is OCTOBER 20th\, 2025.  To apply\, send an email to dino@dapontequartet.org with your contact information\, instrument\, a short list of your chamber music experience (pieces you’ve played) and if applicable\, the other members of your group.  One person can submit a group application and serve as the main contact for that group. \nWhen you have confirmed your participation with Dino Liva\, please send a check or money order for the total amount to: DaPonte String Quartet Foundation\, PO Box 201\, Freeport\, ME 04032. Please write “Adult workshop” in the memo line. \nWe look forward to working with you! \nThe DaPonte String Quartet

SUMMARY:Old Walpole Meetinghouse Annual Candlelight Concert
DESCRIPTION:This magical\, candlelit concert takes place each year as a fundraiser to preserve the Olde Walpole Meetinghouse\, built in 1774.  Join the DSQ for an evening of contrasts as they perform music of Thompson\, Beethoven and Korngold in this historic venue. \nThe program includes the second of Beethoven’s “Razumovsky” quartets\, String Quartet in E minor\, Op 59 no 2\, a work that begins and ends in a stormy manner\, similar to the Appassionata Sonata for piano and written during the same period of Beethoven’s life. \nRandall Thompson’s Alleluia\, a choral work written for Tanglewood during World War II is a powerful\, meditative work\, translating beautifully to strings. \nThe sunny and often humorous Korngold Second String Quartet is a work which seems to reflect a 20th century nostalgia for the “old world”\, including a Straussian waltz\, and bears glimpses of the great film scores Korngold goes on to write in Hollywood in the ’40s and ’50s.

SUMMARY:DSQ: Beethoven & Korngold in Portland\, Aug 27\, 7 pm
DESCRIPTION:Join the DSQ for an evening of contrasts as they performs two great works. \n  \nMaine Public members enjoy a 15% discount on this concert! SUMMARY:Gala Concert at Studzinski
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE. \nJoin us for this one of a kind\, gala celebration marking our 34th anniversary and the launch of our 3rd annual\, international DSQ Institute for advanced quartet studies.  The concert will present a thrilling collaboration between the DaPonte String Quartet and the renowned  pianist\, Christopher O’Riley (also a familiar voice as the former host of NPR’s From the Top) performing the piano quintets of Robert Schumann and Erich Korngold in the phenomenal acoustics of Bowdoin’s Studzinski Hall and will conclude with a meet-the-artists\, catered reception on site. \nWhen he wrote his quintet\, Korngold had yet to make his mark on the Hollywood film industry with soundtracks such as Errol Flynn’s Adventures of Robinhood. This remarkable\, youthfully exuberant work was composed long before he left Vienna.  Its monumental central Adagio is perhaps one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music ever written. \nSchumann’s brilliant masterwork is full of joy and excitement. One of his most celebrated compositions\, it was written in almost a frenzy of creativity\, and dedicated to his wife\, Clara Schumann\, one of the greatest pianists of the 19th century. \nWe can’t wait to share this incredible music and to mingle with all of you after the performance for some good cheer and yummy nibbles!  See you there! \n

SUMMARY:Adult Chamber Music Weekend Workshop
DESCRIPTION:When: May 9-11\, 2025. Where: First Baptist Church of Freeport\, 185 Main Street\, Freeport\, Maine. \n\nGeneral schedule: Friday night\, 6:00-8:30pm; Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm; Sunday 1 pm-approx 5:00pm. We will conclude with a private mini-concert (friends & family invited) of all the groups on Sunday afternoon\, approx 4:00-5:00pm \n\nThe workshop includes eight round robin coaching sessions with all four members of the DaPonte String Quartet. Each ensemble will focus on one movement from a standard piece of the chamber music literature.  There are also several demonstrations of rehearsal techniques\, including topics such as phrasing and intonation. \n\nWe have space for four ensembles and are giving preference to preformed groups of four or more (sextets are really fun!). Unfortunately\, we can’t accommodate pianists at this venue.  If you are interested\, but don’t have a group you regularly play with\, let us know and we can try to match you up with others.  In your application\, list the level of music you’re comfortable playing (Haydn\, Brahms\, Bartok\, Ligeti etc).\n\n\nThanks to a grant from ACMP which helped us to reduce tuition by nearly 30%\, the fee for the workshop is only $225.  There is no food or lodging provided\, but there are lots of eateries within walking distance or a quick drive away. We will have some light refreshments on hand. There are also several hotels in the area if you prefer not to commute. \n\nThe deadline to apply is May 1.  To apply\, send an email to dino@dapontequartet.org with your contact information\, instrument\, a short list of your chamber music experience (pieces you’ve played) and if applicable\, the other members of your group.  One person can submit a group application and serve as the main contact for that group. \n \n\n\n\nWhen you have confirmed your participation with Dino Liva\, please send a check or money order for the total amount to: DaPonte String Quartet Foundation\, PO Box 201\, Freeport\, ME 04032. Please write “Adult workshop” in the memo line. \nWe look forward to working with you! \n\n\n–The DaPonte String Quartet \nThis program was made possible\, in part\, through the support of Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP)\, an international service organization supporting chamber music for pleasure.Join ACMP – Membership is FREE!
